Perhaps if you're called off to do other morning things (I have children so I certainly know that more often than not I'm pulled straight out of sleep and into the day with their needs), wait until you have the opportunity to sit with your morning cup of tea/coffee/juice/smoothie and spend that time consciously with your own presence. In my Reiki training they emphasised a Japanese saying "A cup of tea, A cup of enlightenment", implying that if you are fully present with each sip, the feel of the cup in your hands, the warmth of the tea and vapours rising from it, the aroma of the tea itself, and so on, that you are being your enlightened, connected, present self, enjoying the moment. :) Oh, and having just re-read my article (forgive me, it’s been a few months lol), I do want to emphasise the simple conscious connection that you make with yourself….a deep connecting breath and being aware of your whole body and all senses….that only takes a moment. As I've typed that I'm also seeing you by the fireside and whether this means sitting by a real fireside in your home or visualising a warming fireplace, perhaps it would be a good point of focus for you. Don't be too concerned about fitting in meditation in a formal sense. I feel any connection with nature or a few moments of centering (like looking into a fire or candle flame) is immensely helpful. I don't believe we go back to sleep but we can indeed get caught up in what's right in front of us in our lives at times. But we'll always reach a point where we reconnect again and are in a new place to see the journey we've just been on and the value of it. Just the fact that you recognise hard times as an 'initiation' means that you are far from asleep. You are doing the best you can in the moment and know that there's more 'behind the scenes' going on.
