
Sometimes, especially if we spend too much time “in our head” or on spiritual matters, we find it hard to focus on physical matters in our daily life or find it hard to focus in general. In this case we need to “ground” our energy which basically means connect with earth energy.
When you “ground” your energy you connect with your physical vitality, release stress and centre yourself.
You may optionally hold a crystal such as hematite, obsidian, jet, black tourmaline, smoky quartz or other dark or metallic crystal that will assist in grounding your energy. They can be very effective and wearing such a crystal helps to keep you grounded throughout the day.
Being grounded is also how you protect your energy from psychic interference including negative thoughts and emotions of others, or even the presence of spirits.
Begin as you would with a breath awareness meditation – relax and focus on your breathing.
Now visualise your energy moving down your legs, out through your feet and into the ground. (You don’t have to be standing on the ground for this to work. See your energy travelling down through the floors of building levels and concrete if necessary).
It’s common to visualise this energy like roots that reach right down into the earth, anchoring you there. You might prefer to visualise your actual legs anchoring into the earth.
Visualise this for as long as you feel is needed, usually only a few minutes.
You might feel denser or heavier in a subtle way when your energy is grounded.
Variations
This meditation is open to many adaptations, such as seeing yourself as a magnet being drawn towards the earth or seeing yourself flowing or combining in some way with the earth. Use your imagination!
